QinetiQ Nanomaterials

Produced as a locally hosted web application this service was created to host and mangage a hugh amount of process data related to the production of Nanomaterials.

 

As data was collected daily, it was important to save and structure the data in a way so it could be easily search, managed, audited, graphed and compared. Microsoft Excel is usually adequate for small projects but when an audit trail is required along with multiple access, moving to a web-based solution is ideal.

 

The introduction of this system brought with it the following advantages:

• The system could be accessed from any machine on the network. No software needs to be installed and no licencing restrictions apply.
• Multiple users can input at once, wheras shared files on a network only allow one person to edit at a time.
• Scalability was significantly improved allowing for gigabytes of data to be stored without any slow down in service.
• Custom Analysis tools were created allowing different data samples to be quickly compared and contrasted.

This site was created in 2003, and used AJAX to improve useability and responsiveness to the user.
